Kindergarten!

wrenschool

Wren started kindergarten last week. How did that happen?! I can’t quite believe it, but at the same time it seems just about right. She’s absolutely ready for it and tells me that so far she’s “rocking Kindergarten!” The day after Kindergarten started she was singing and dancing around, “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this day. I’m finally in Kindergarten!” Um, OK, five year old…

Even though she’s excited about it, full of confidence, popping out of bed in the morning, excited about new friends and learning Spanish and writer’s workshop… I have been grieving the loss of my baby. It really struck me right before Kindergarten started. I was a wreck. But the day came I was able to hold it together. This isn’t really about me. Roots and wings, roots and wings.

You’ve got roots and we’ll continue to nourish those for the rest of your life, but birdie, you’ve got WINGS. Fly!

I couldn’t be prouder of Wren right now! She ditched the floaty this weekend and started swimming. The process of watching her gain confidence and keep kicking and paddling and gain more confidence and start swimming was so wonderful. Swimming is one of my true loves and to be able to share that with my girls is incredible. Wren’s proud smile says it all. It’s a whole new era. We’re loving it!

a whole hand

Wren5Cake

Our amazing Wren Sabina turned five a couple of weeks ago. A whole hand! In some ways it feels like she was just born because that time is still so fresh and magical in my mind and heart, but in other ways I can vaguely remember my life without her presence. Time is so strange, isn’t it?

I’m so proud of the person she’s becoming. In her own words, “this is going to be a big year. I’m going to read, ride my bike and swim.” She’s going to “rock it,” as Wren likes to say. And she certainly will. She is strong, feisty, funny, beautiful, determined, graceful, brave, and smart as a whip. That’s my girl.

Happy birthday, my darling daughter!

Phoebe Jane. “I two and a HALF, Mama.” Oh yes, my darling, you are two and a half. You are such a pure joy!

Super duper big week for Wren. She had her dance recital and she turned five. More on both of those later. Just a little portrait now of my wonderful Wren Sabina, looking very much like five and not four anymore. Bittersweet.

Chris and Wren have had some fun dates lately. Last week he took Wren to Interlochen to see Into the Woods. They explored the beautiful campus and the BIG stages while they were there. Chris grabbed these shots of Wren on stage.

Dream big, kid, dream BIG.

We’ve got a big week here, lovelies.

Wren will turn five (!) on Saturday and she’ll perform her tap and ballet routines in a recital the same day. Almost every day this week is full of some kind of birthday or dance prep or mini-celebration. In addition to our every day responsibilities… Ready, set, go!

Happy Mother’s Day

There was a time I didn’t know if I would have a family. My Dr told me not to give up hope for a family after we lost our first daughter, Ariel. I’m so grateful I found my hope again. And so very blessed to have these strong, smart, beautiful people in my life. I love you, birdies.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Wren had a big week. She went to kindergarten round-up and blew the roof off the place. She is VERY excited for kindergarten.

She also had a dental exam. I’m not sure how much longer her excitement in visiting the dentist will last, but it’s been going strong for the past two years. She says, “I just love the dentist. I get to watch tv and zone out in the chair.” Funny girl.

And, well, I know I’m breaking the rules of the 52 Project, but just one more of Wren. The dancers got their costumes last week for the recital. Here is Wren in her ballet costume with her best friend, Maddie, whom Wren “fell in love with two years ago.” I love to see their friendship grow.

Have a great week! xo
