In this Mama’s eyes, Phoebe is in the quintessential baby phase. When I picture a “baby,” I think of this stage from about four to eight months. She’s got the funny comb-over look going on with her hair where the long, fine newborn hair is still hanging on while the new hair is coming in and she’s just beginning to really play with things. And she’s got a movie star smile that never fails to cheer us up. Oh little doll baby, we love you so.

four months
Our sweet and lovely Phoebe Jane is four months old! She loves to snuggle in her blankie and play an infant version of peekaboo with us. We are just so thankful to have such a wonderful baby in our presence: easy-going, tolerant of her sister’s antics, engaging, charming. What a gift for whom we are so very grateful. We love you, little sister! But stop growing up so fast, will ya?
nose kisses
Because sometimes your kids are just so darn cute it makes your cheeks hurt. This was an especially sweet moment this morning. Phoebe just loves her sister’s attention, including most of her wild antics. I’m not so hot on the antics, but I can see why a certain toddler just can’t help but squeeze her baby sister a little too hard…

ten pounds
On the cusp of three months, our sweet Phoebe Jane now weighs ten pounds. That’s like a big sack of potatoes, a medium bowling ball, two small chihuahuas or forty sticks of butter. Except that she’s so much cuter. And her sister agrees saying, “oh Phoebe, I love you so much I want to hug your arm.” Hey, her arms are pretty delicious looking. And those chins too.
two months!
seven weeks
Holy smokes, lovelies, seven weeks already? Sweet Phoebe is beginning to find her voice and share her sparkling personality with us. She’s such a joy to all of us! Full of squeals and gummy smiles this morning although she cried through most of The Polar Express last night. Maybe too scary for a tiny baby? Hmmm.
It’s fun to take a peek back at Wren at this same age. She was rolling over because she hated to be on her tummy. Here’s a little video from that time. They definitely look like sisters to me…

6 weeks
Here’s our Phoebe at six weeks, smiling up at her big sister right after Wren tried to “just a little bit wrestle” her. I try to protect Phoebe from Wren’s over-zealous snuggles, pokes, tugs and way too tight hugs, but I’m beginning to think that Phoebe likes it. I don’t know about you, but I needed to see this gummy smile today. Anyone else have a case of the Mondays? Geesh.
five weeks
Oh the weather outside is frightful, but you are so very delightful!
Phoebe Jane is now five weeks old and she smiles! And also makes a lot of other funny faces as she discovers the world… It’s so gratifying when your baby starts to smile, isn’t it? They are oblivious to the dust bunnies, mountain(s) of dishes, ubiquitous spit-up. They are just happy to be cozily snuggled up with a full tummy. Aah, if life could only stay so simple… Thanks, Phoebe, for brightening up these gloomy early winter days!
three weeks
Sweet Phoebe Jane is three weeks old. I was going to write “already,” but that’s awfully trite (but true too). She’s waking up a bit more every day and although we’re still getting into a rhythm, she seems so much easier than Wren as an infant. This is probably a combination of her easy-going nature, our more easy-going parenting this time around and also, it’s still early. She’s still sleeping most of the time and doesn’t have many gripes about the world as long as she’s fed, warm, cozy and dry. Yet! I remember that things got a bit trickier as Wren woke up to the world and decided to voice her concerns about things other than food, clothing, temperature or attention. Was it world peace? Social injustice? Gender inequality? The art work in her room? We’re still not quite sure as that pre-verbal stage is a tough one.
A couple more shots of my littlest birdie. Baby feet? Can’t get enough. And a profile pic, which seems to exaggerate the size of her ears, but cute anyway. Isn’t she sporting just the cutest little pixie haircut? Hey, a Mama’s meant to gush a bit, right?!
P.S. I just love a baby in a simple white onesie. You?
