losing what’s left of my mind

You know you’ve lost your mind when…

  • you walk into the bathroom only to stand and wonder why you were there in the first place, sit back down at your desk and remember that you have to pee. Once is excusable, but twice in one morning?
  • you can’t find your to-do list that’s supposed to help keep your head on (mostly) straight because it somehow ended up inside the pink tutu that is balled up on top of the printer.
  • you think it’s a good idea to teach your toddler to unscrew caps in a desire to encourage fine motor skill development, only to find that she’s perfected her skills on a bottle of green paint that is now “all gone!”
  • you think the idea of a good time is shoveling snow at 9:45 p.m.
  • yesterday’s coffee is perfectly acceptable.
  • you trade in your old books on feminist art theory for a Winnie the Pooh lift-the-flap book.

squirrely book

We’ve really been enjoying one of Wren’s new books I got her for Christmas, Nuts to You!, by one of my favorite author/illustrators, Lois Ehlert. Of course, it’s about squirrels… but that’s not the ONLY great thing about it, silly. The illustrations are fantastic (Lois, I heart you!) and the story, whimsical AND scientific. I love how Lois (yeah, that’s right, we’re on a first-name basis) adds a bit of science and natural history to a fun page-turner. Makes for a read that will last for years. Heck, I learned something too. Sorry, Madagascar and Australia, NO squirrels for you?! Sigh.

Because Wren is about as obsessed with balls as I am with squirrels, this is one of her favorite scenes in the book as she squeals, “ball!!!” This book, Nuts to You!, gets our squirrely thumb’s up, lovelies. Enjoy!

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary to this tiny corner of Cyberspace and Happy 2011 to you!

I’ve been blogging here at BeSquirrely for one year now and thank YOU, dear lovelies, for clicking in on me from time to time and following my drivel. Without you this really wouldn’t be anything so I thank you for your encouragement to keep posting through your comments and e-mails. This year I plan to continue posting regularly and am thinking about a smallish site redesign and possibly looking for sponsorship this year too. Any small businesses interested? I’m here to make you a fabulous offer… ha!

All the best to you in 2011!

And yes, my favorite color is still orange.

Where did they come from?

The top referring sites in 2010 were facebook.com, designmom.com, Google Reader, ohdeedoh.com, and forum.maternal.com.au.

Some visitors came searching, mostly for mountain valley wrap, mountain valley wraps, james and the giant peach, pepper potts, and squirrels in wren’s nest.
