The birdies. 30-31/52

A portrait of my birdies, once a week, every week, in 2014. Or every couple weeks… and maybe more than a picture of each. Too many good ones to choose from this time around.

And a couple more from the Detroit Zoo. It rained, but we had a great time anyway.

The Birdies 29/52

Where did the week go? Zoom! We were in the midst of Cherry Festival here in Traverse City and now we are enjoying a quieter summer again. Aaaahh.

Wren and I had fun visiting a new place in Traverse City – the laundromat near Tom’s 14th street. Loved the mural and the chairs. Wren enjoyed looking at everyone’s clothes going round and round. “Oh look, they’ve got a pink shirt too!” It’s easy to forget that simple things can be so novel and exciting. Reason #743 why it’s so great to have children in my life.

Wren is now 2/3 of a hay bale high. We’ve been driving by hay bales quite a bit lately and we got to wondering how big they actually were, or how little we actually are… So we got out and had to check them out for ourselves.

We spent one evening at the Cherry Festival and finally found a ride that tiny Phoebe could go on! Speed racer! They spent all their lemonade stand money on a ride and a sno cone. It’s our new Cherry Festival tradition!

I’ve been taking pictures, but haven’t posted them. Again! Such.is.life.

So here is a catch-up post of photos from a few weeks. Early summer! Enjoy.

Nothing quite like sitting on a pile of books.

We can’t keep up with the strawberries in our garden. A good problem to have!

photo(40)

I think Phoebe Jane might be living off of popsicles this summer?

The summer of the fairy. Porch living!

Phoebe Jane’s first haircut! She did great. Very poised.

And we returned to one of our favorite Traverse City gems – Sixth Street’s Secret Garden.

Thanks, early summer.

The Birdies. 20/52

Chris and Wren have had some fun dates lately. Last week he took Wren to Interlochen to see Into the Woods. They explored the beautiful campus and the BIG stages while they were there. Chris grabbed these shots of Wren on stage.

Dream big, kid, dream BIG.

And here is our sweet Phoebe Jane flying her first kite at Empire beach! Perfect day.

We’ve got a big week here, lovelies.

Wren will turn five (!) on Saturday and she’ll perform her tap and ballet routines in a recital the same day. Almost every day this week is full of some kind of birthday or dance prep or mini-celebration. In addition to our every day responsibilities… Ready, set, go!

Phoebe Jane in the sunlight. Yes, we’ve been seeing the sun. Amazing! Spun sugar hair.

Wren had a big week. She went to kindergarten round-up and blew the roof off the place. She is VERY excited for kindergarten.

photo(17)

She also had a dental exam. I’m not sure how much longer her excitement in visiting the dentist will last, but it’s been going strong for the past two years. She says, “I just love the dentist. I get to watch tv and zone out in the chair.” Funny girl.

And, well, I know I’m breaking the rules of the 52 Project, but just one more of Wren. The dancers got their costumes last week for the recital. Here is Wren in her ballet costume with her best friend, Maddie, whom Wren “fell in love with two years ago.” I love to see their friendship grow.

Have a great week! xo
